Navigating Perimenopause: Rediscover Your Clarity, Resilience, and Community Perimenopause typically begins in a woman’s 40s but can start as early as the mid-30s or as late as the early 50s, depending on individual factors. This transitional phase lasts on average 4–8 years before menopause, which is officially marked by 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period. During this time, many women experience physical, emotional, and cognitive changes, including: irregular periods (shorter or longer cycles), hot flashes and night sweats, sleep disturbances, mood swings, irritability, or anxiety, difficulty concentrating or memory lapses ("brain fog"), decreased libido, vaginal dryness or discomfort during sex, weight changes or bloating. These changes can feel overwhelming, but they also present an opportunity to focus on self-care, resilience, and growth. Smell training therapy, or olfactory training, enhances memory and reduces stress. Engaging with specific scents can stimulate neural pathways associated with memory and mood regulation, offering a non-invasive method to support brain health during this transitional period.
